NON CONTRACT DAYS

EMPLOYEES ARE CONTRACTED FOR A CERTAIN NUMBER OF DAYS PER YEAR ACCORDING TO THEIR JOB DESCRIPTION OR THE BOARD APPROVED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR EXTENDED DAYS. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS AN INDIVIDUAL WORKS, MAY VARY FROM 180 ALL THE WAY TO 240 DAYS. THESE ARE ALL CONSIDERED CONTRACTED DAYS (PART OF AN EMPLOYEE’S CONTRACT) AND MAY BE COMPOSED OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS, HOLIDAYS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS, BACKPACK DAYS, ETC. THESE DAYS ARE TIED DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOL CALENDAR BUT MAY INCLUDE ADDITIONAL DAYS ON TOP OF THE SCHOOL CALENDAR.

TYPICALLY THERE ARE 260 DAYS (MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY) IN A YEAR. MOST EMPLOYEES ARE CONTRACTED FOR 240 DAYS OR LESS. THEREFORE, ALL DAYS GREATER THAN THE CONTRACTED AMOUNT ARE CONSIDERED NON-CONTRACT DAYS (I.E. 260 TOTAL DAYS - 240 CONTRACTED DAYS = 20 NON-CONTRACTED DAYS.) THIS MEANS THEY ARE NOT A PART OF YOUR CONTRACT, YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO WORK, AND YOU ARE NOT PAID FOR THESE DAYS.


MANY PEOPLE THINK OF NON-CONTRACT DAYS AS VACATION DAYS. NON-CONTRACT DAYS ARE SIMILAR TO VACATION DAYS IN THAT THEY ARE BOTH DAYS OFF. HOWEVER, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR CONTRACT, THEY AREN’T ACTUALLY PAID DAYS AND THEREFORE EMPLOYEES MUST TAKE THIS NUMBER OF DAYS OFF DURING THE YEAR. SALARIES IN THESE TYPES OF POSITIONS ARE CREATED IN SUCH A WAY TO COMPENSATE FOR A FULL YEAR, EVEN THOUGH A FULL 260 DAYS ARE NOT WORKED.
DAYS TAKEN OFF AS NON-CONTRACT DAYS SHOULD BE ENTERED INTO FRONTLINE (FORMERLY AESOP) AS NON-CONTRACT DAYS FOR RECORDKEEPING PURPOSES.
